Why am I fundraising?
I am fundraising because I believe Jesus has called me to be a long-term missionary—likely for the rest of my life. In this calling, I cannot do this on my own. God has set my heart to reach those who have never heard and never known His gospel message, while also serving those who are rejected, poor, or distraught. Right now I’m in YWAM preparing, discipling others, and being discipled in order to prepare my steps into long-term missions wherever God calls me!
Why should you support?
There are many things I’ve personally learned about fundraising since being in YWAM. It is unique because in YWAM no one earns a salary—from new staff to leaders across the globe. This model teaches us dependence on God, that our first mission is not to earn, but to “seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added” (Matthew 6:33).
When I was younger, I thought it was strange to see missionaries asking for support. To be honest, it still feels unnatural to me—this is something I continue to grow in. Yet Scripture shows us that God loves and blesses a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:6–8). As believers, we all have unique roles in the body of Christ. We are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus—to give and to serve others. God has called me specifically as a missionary to go into the world and do this cross-culturally. He has broken my heart for those who do not know Him, and for those who are suffering and in need. A big thing that I’ve understood is that although my flesh desires comfort, I am willing to give all of myself to God so that those who have less than me may find comfort in Him. I am committed to living simply, not for personal gain, but so that the resources entrusted to me are used wisely for the work of the Kingdom.
Vertical & Horizontal giving
A concept I’ve learned in YWAM is “vertical giving.” You are not simply giving to me—you are giving to God. I want to encourage you not to give out of pressure or obligation, but only as you feel led by God. This is of utmost importance to me. We are a team, and in all that we give, we give first to God. As you give to God, I receive where I offer my service back to God through serving others. This is what we call “horizontal giving”. Giving vertically and serving horizontally—together they form the shape of the cross.
1 Corinthians 9:13–14 — “The Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.”
Philippians 4:15–17 — “No church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only… Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.”
Together, these passages show that while God ordains material support for those who preach the gospel, Paul’s primary concern is not his own provision, but the spiritual fruit that results in the lives of those who give. I desire, as I walk out my life in following God, to build a team that partners with me in what He is doing. I am committed to stewarding what you give with integrity, simplicity, and accountability, so that everything entrusted to me is used faithfully for God’s purposes.
What does this mean for you?
Partnership means that you share in the eternal fruit of the gospel through my obedience. As you give, you are not merely meeting a financial need—you are participating in what God is doing among the nations. I commit to serve faithfully, live simply, steward wisely, pray for you regularly, and remain accountable in how resources are used. Together, we are laboring for the Kingdom.
